Slovak songs at BHS were an excellent dramaturgical idea
“The only soloist of the evening who did not need sheet music was the soprano Mária Taytaková. The fact that both performed cycles are part of her new song CD Impressions does not change this matter. She chose three songs for soprano and piano, op. 3 on Rudolf Dilong’s poem Spring in the Valley by Ján Zimmer… Maria Taytakova in artistic harmony with pianist Ladislav Fančovič brought an appropriately differentiated atmosphere to the songs. The solo voice sounded in a timbre with an impressive shine not only in the highs, it attracted attention with sensitive modeling of phrases and handling of dynamic nuances.”
“In the second half of the concert, Maria Taytakova and Ladislav Fančovič returned to the stage with the song cycle for coloratura soprano and piano op. 19 The Youth on the text by Laco Novomeský, a work from the early creative period of the composer and conductor Ladislav Holoubek… In Taytakova’s interpretation, underpainted by Fančovič’s sensitive piano, we could hear not only technical confidence in the coloratura sections and a large tonal range of the cycle, but equally expressive depth in work with dynamics, revealing a close and profound symbiosis of words and music.”

“Marie Taytakova’s lyrical soprano sounds balanced in all positions, it has a pleasant rounded colour and, thanks to her excellent breath technique the phrasing is fluent… The songs () have a varied atmosphere, each of them has its own poetics, which Taytakova conceived in a close creative partnership with Fanzowitz with a strong emotion, sense of chamber musicianship, plastic content reflection of lyrical, as well as, and more dramatic surges… The soprano’s intonation is clear, her voice has a warm timbre in the central register, and her piano on high notes is particularly impressive… The turn to the German-language repertoire () points to her ability to interconnect the parlando style with legato, and in addition to the strong personal contribution of the singer and the pianist, the highs notes in piano are once again the most impressive parts… In the Slovak block, Taytakova confirms her sense of expressive detailing, precise intonation even in difficult passages and excellent articulation – whether it is about capturing melancholy or sonorous beauty, or certain rhapsodic elements…”

“M. Taytakova responded positively to the challenge of singing solo songs. She opened them up for herself and the listeners, and discovered their intimate atmosphere. This unusually beautiful atmosphere is also spread by her interpretation of all the songs from the CD album. The fragile world of the French composers’ lyrics perceives M. Taytakova extremely sensitively and respectfully as a singer. The result is vocal freshness in every song and natural expression when moving melodic lines. Fauré and Duparc’s songs act as a light breeze of musical delicacy in her performance.”
“Not only in French, but also in Slovak songs, the work with tones, the musically flawless treatment of high positions, the precision of singing in coloraturas and the sonically acceptable increase in the dramatic tension of some songs (Debussy, but also Duparc, not to mention Berg and in several places songs by Slovak authors) do impress. On the CD, M. Taytakova attracted attention by a colorfully balanced vocal fundus, sonorous voice in every position, and round tone production. The songs of Slovak composers, in texture even a bit more demanding than the French ones, did not represent an interpretation problem for the great soloist.”

They cannot be heard at markets, supermarkets or street concerts. Such music needs atmosphere, space and the opportunity to go into its mood, into its aura at 100%. It has been today! A soprano who has a rich artistic experience on various opera stages around the world during her musical career. Maria Taytakova, a brilliant artist. Something beautiful, unseen, unusual. Compositions by Claude Debussy, Mathias Ruegg, Henri Duparc, Jan Zimmer and many others sounded like in a dream, so easily, so smoothly. The accompanist was Ladislav Fanzowitz, pianist, saxophonist, with music bound by a mental connection that cannot be disrupted. The visual dignity of the artists must also be taken into account, as can be seen in the photographs by Michał Buksa. If St. Nicholas Evening is not held every day, what do we say to St. Nicholas Evening in this style? Unique!”

„Mária Tajtáková (vystupuje ako Maria Taytakova) patrí medzi operné hviezdy, ktoré šíria dobré meno Slovenska v zahraničí. Je známa po celom svete. Debutovala v úlohe Lucie di Lammermoor v rovnomennej Donizettiho opere v Štátnom divadle v Košiciach v roku 2009. Odtiaľ ju jej lyricko-koloratúrny soprán zaviedol do Talianska, Nemecka, Rakúska i Japonska. V Taliansku očarila v úlohe Musetty (G. Puccini: La Bohème), v Rakúsku zaujala ako Gilda (G. Verdi: Rigoletto), Adina (G. Donizetti: Elisir d’amore) a Piramo (J. A Hasse: Piramo e Tisbe), v Nemecku, Rakúsku a Japonsku si podmanila koncertné pódia, no nevyhýba sa ani účinkovaniu na Slovensku, kde stvárnila ďalšie úlohy ako Najade (R. Strauss: Aridane auf Naxos) a Oberto (G.F. Händel: Alcina). Kritika o nej píše v superlatívoch a okrem krásneho hlasu a elegantného speváckeho prejavu vyzdvihuje aj jej hereckú expresívnosť.“

MARIA TAYTAKOVA, the acclaimed Gilda and Adina from the Klassik Festival Schloss Kirchstetten. Traviata. Violetta’s great scene and aria from the 1st act. Of course, today the appearance plays an important role. The beautiful singer with an artful hairstyle and flattering robe was again a feast for the eyes. But Maria Taytakova could sing Violetta like this even in a potato sack! Again, every tone sounded, intimate, feverish, with sparkling coloratura, well seated middle position, understandable text and crystal clear highs. The soprano has a voice as beautiful as a dream with many colours; coloratura ability, spinto qualities – a Violetta of her (the role that requires two, if not even three voices) would be exciting and desirable… Her Gilda in quartet was perfect and beautiful!…The Flower Duet from “Lakme” with ELSA GIANNOULIDOU and MARIA TAYTAKOVA…Only this duet itself was the highlight of all highlights at the Kirchstetten concert. What the two singers have presented here earned the maximum number of stars. It was so infinitely vocally elaborated, dramatically touching, yet quite simple, really the highest level. Every breath came together on the split of a second and the voices sounded in harmony without equal.

Thanks to the excellent role shaping of Adina by Maria Taytakova we witnessed a credible metamorphosis of the main character. In addition, the Slovak singer seems to be also vocally the most ideal Adina. She has a full, rich lyric soprano with reliable coloratura skills. In the first moment a regular concert-goer may get an impression that these types of voices are abundant in opera houses. However, a singer who possesses the technique and musicality of Maria Taytakova can be found rarely.

From an inaccessible business lady she becomes an attractive young woman. Besides the eye-catching acting talent the vocal stability of Maria Taytakova was one of the major gains of the whole performance.

The director’s basic idea made from Gilda undoubtedly the main character of the entire piece, and thus placed a considerable burden on the slender shoulders of Maria Taytakova. In Taytakova’s interpretation one could see not the usual “pale and anemic prototype” of Gilda, but a creature of flesh and blood. The love duet in the first act was filled out with an amazingly happy passion, while during her aria (“Caro nome”) she led us into – in this case – an authentic dream world, which ultimately caused her own apostasy. Her role interpretation was marked not only by an immense thoroughness and depth, but also by a full-blown drama. This – given a proximity to the audience – escalated the tragedy of a young girl determined already from the “Vendetta duet” with her father.
